Remembering our Friend and Comrade Vince Walsh (1922 - 2009)
Dear Friends,
It is with great sadness that we have to report that our friend and fellow New Democrat, Vince Walsh, passed away on Friday, December 18. He was 88 years old. Vince was a member and tireless activist with the Oakville NDP for decades and a democratic socialist to the core.
Beloved husband of Frances Walsh for 41 years. Father of Brian, Tina and Mary. Caring grandfather of James and William. Survived by his sister Margaret Kaiser (nee Walsh) and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Predeceased by his brothers Peter, Richard, Fred and Allan; sisters Loretta and Mary and first wife Esther (Hettie) Walsh (nee Dalton). Vince was blessed with a long life filled with happy times with family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held 1:30 pm, Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at Saint Dominic Roman Catholic Church.Interment is at Trafalgar Lawn Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial contributions to the Alzheimer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
Vince was a decorated member of the Canadian Armed forces during World War II, stormed the beach at Normandy, survived the Battle of the Bulge, and held on to oversee the defeat of Fascism and the saving of millions of innocent lives and democracy itself. He was a member of The Greatest Generation that struggled for so many of the rights we cherish today.
Our thoughts are with his friends and family, including wife Frances who many of us know from her work with the Oakville NDP. Vincent Arthur Walsh will be sadly missed by all.
