Horwath announces Job Creation Tax Credit to create 20,000 new jobs a year “Create a job, get a tax break”

September 9, 2011. Oakville. NDP Leader Andrea Horwath announced a plan today that will reward companies that create more jobs in Ontario.

“Ontario continues to lose good jobs, hurting the chances for a better future for thousands of families,” said Horwath. “It doesn’t have to be this way. We can choose to make smart investments to create more good jobs right here in Ontario.”

The New Democrats’ Job Creation Tax Credit will reimburse employers 20 per cent of the wage for new hires for one year, up to $5,000 per worker. To qualify companies will have to provide on-the-job training and demonstrate they are creating new positions, not filling existing jobs with subsidized workers.

Instead of billions in no-strings attached corporate tax giveaways, the NDP’s Job Creation Tax Credit will create 80,000 jobs over four years.

“Unlike the Liberal plan, our plan will apply to all new hires. Our solution will increase the number of jobs available to everyone – men, women, new Canadians, or young people – anyone who needs work,” Horwath said.  “I’d welcome the other parties to have a real debate face-to-face about job creation, and put the talking points away.”

The NDP Leader announced the Job Creation Tax Credit at the Sheet Metal Workers Training Centre in Oakville where she was joined by local NDP candidate Lesley Sprague.  The credit is a key part of the party’s overall job creation package, which also includes support for new capital investment and employee training.

“Positive change for everyday people means helping  small business and other employers invest in our communities and create jobs here in Ontario, not sending jobs overseas,” said Horwath.
